Weeks 11 & 12: November 7th-17th Thank you families for attending conferences. It was great getting the opportunity to learn more about your child and share more about Pre-K! Last week we read The Hungry Thing and The Hungry Thing Returns by Jan Slepian. This week we read Seven Blind Mice by Ed Young. Many of our games and activities were focused around these books. During circle time we played a game with the Hungry Thing. He would ask the children to feed him a food using a word that rhymed with the food that he wanted. The children needed to listen, find the rhyming food and feed him. We acted out Seven Blind Mice using paper colored mice. The children also practiced ordinal numbers by lining the mice up and following the sequence from the book. We used our sense of sight to make inferences about what a particular picture could be. The children were shown part of a picture. They needed to use the clues from the picture and gather information to infer what the picture was. We also used our math skills to show different combinations of seven. We used our math hands to show seven and objects to make different groupings. During Table Time and Free Choice we explored puffy paint and soft dough. We practiced our scissor skills... we cut pictures from magazines to create collages. We also practiced cutting straight lines to make turkey wind socks. Many children chose to wear them as necklaces. We cut apart a picture of "The Hungry Thing" and tried to paste it back together. We also played "I Spy" using Thanksgiving foods and created Thanksgiving pattern block shapes. The children created paper bag turkeys. Gabrielle from the Kellogg Hubbard library came and read to the afternoon class and left us 20 books for our classroom library! Meg, our school speech and language pathologist, came into our classroom to teach us about composting with worms and how to care for them. *Important Dates* **November 21st: SPOT vision Screening at 9am **November 23rd-25th: No School-- Thanksgiving Break **Reminders** We have snack during each session.
