September 19th-22nd It was great seeing so many families at open house! The children worked together to gather tomatoes and onions from the garden to make salsa for the potluck. They also helped remove the sunflower seeds from our giant sunflowers. Our biggest sunflower was 19 inches!!! During circle time we continued working on rhyming. Rhyming is an important pre-reading skill and teaches children about how language works. It helps them notice and manipulate sounds within words. We sang more rhyming songs that included their names... The children did an amazing job using rhyme to identify their names and their friends names. We also read books that included rhyme and the children filled in the missing rhyming words! You can continue to help your child with rhyming at home by reading nursery rhymes, singing songs with predictable rhyming patterns and playing silly rhyming games using real and non-sense words... You can take turns saying a word (real or non-sense) and coming up with as many rhyming words as you can. This can easily be done while riding in the car or other "waiting" times. We worked a lot with color this week. Many of the children are able to identify all the colors! Yay! We answered the question: "What's your favorite color?" by creating a graph using our bodies to line up and show the results. We counted and compared what colors were the least favorite, most favorite and which colors were equal. We went on a color hunt and used a "mystery bag" to select objects to identify the color and match the object to other alike colors. During table time and free choice time we experimented painting with watercolors and mixing colors to make new colors. Name tags and color words were added to the writing center so children can practice writing their names and their friends. We created bookmarks. Some children even wrote their names on the bookmarks! Play dough mats with blank faces were added to our sensory play. The children used the play dough to make faces, hair, etc. Many of the children chose to make their moms and even added earrings! **Important Dates & Reminders*** **Every Wednesday: 3:00pm early dismissal **Home/School Folders: Please make sure your child brings it to school each day.
