October 24th-27th
Thank you for all of the Halloween snacks! Thank you Mr. B. for coordinating the celebration and thank you Nicole for face painting!!! The children are VERY excited about Halloween. We have been reading books and singing songs about Halloween. The children were very eager to share about their costumes and favorite candy that they hope to get trick or treating. During circle time this week we focused on early math skills. We played Beware of the Bat. The children took turns turning over cards with cats and numerals on it. They needed to identify the numeral and show the amount on their fingers to keep the card. If the "bat" card is turned over, all of the cards go back to the drawing pile. It was a great group activity. The children were cheering one another on! We also played Roll-a-Jack-O'lantern. There were six pieces to make a jack-o' lantern. Each piece coordinated with a number on the die. The children rolled a die, identified the amount and matched it to a piece of the jack-o'lantern. We carved our pumpkin and made estimates about the number of seeds in the pumpkin. We will count them on Monday! During Table Time and Free Choice we explored slime! This was the favorite activity of the week. We sorted insects by type and color. We created structures with blocks by observing pictures and trying to create the identical structure. Playing with the barn and farm animals was also a favorite! *Important Dates & Reminders* ** November 4th-12th: Scholastic Book Fair **November 9th: Harvest Luncheon (Pre-K eats 11:15-12:00) **November 10th: BES Pre-K Closed-- Parent / Teacher Conferences **November 23rd-25th: No School-- Thanksgiving Break *** The tentative field trip to the fire station is scheduled for Thursday, November 3rd.
